US Hands Off Venezuela!

ILPS-US strongly condemns US-Trump’s provocative acts of aggression against Venezuela! On November 15-23, ILPS and our member organizations mobilized as part of a national week of action to send a clear message – the US extrajudicial killings by way of bombing civilian boats off the coast of Venezuela is absolutely illegal by all standards and US military build up in the region is an escalation of war which must be stopped. The establishment of a no-fly zone over Venezuela and the staging of at least 15,000 troops in the Caribbean are an aggressive escalation in this recent US attempt at illegal and violent regime change in the country.

Trump and his administration has presented no evidence to back their false claims of targeting drug smugglers in their illegal boat bombings which have killed more than 80 people, many who have families relying on them, terrorizing communities who are afraid to go fishing for their livelihood. This continues a recurring pattern by which the US under Trump makes outrageous and offensive claims, criminalizing migrants as drug traffickers with no evidence provided as a basis to justify employing coercive economic and political measures to the benefit of the US, such as Trump’s absurd accusations of fentanyl flowing into the US via Canada and China as an excuse to further raise tariffs. Recently, the most ironic and revealing twist in his so-called “war on drugs” is his brazen pledge to pardon convicted drug trafficker former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, which exposes these claims of drugs as merely a distraction to draw away criticism from US-Trump’s true intentions.

History shows the US tried to topple Venezuela’s Bolivarian government under Hugo Chavez back in 2002 to gain access to the world’s largest oil reserves and US-Trump is back at it again seeking military intervention and throwing its weight to back opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who is in favor of privatizing the country’s oil. They are desperately trying to find ways to topple President Maduro again after the failed plot to support Juan Guaido’s coup under Trump’s first regime in 2019.

The people of Venezuela have already suffered immensely for 2 decades at the hands of US-sanctions, and they have been staunchly defending their land and asserting their national sovereignty. We must show our international solidarity for their struggle to maintain sovereignty against US-aggression!
