National Week of Action: Sept 21 - 27, 2026

Join us in a Week of Action targeting the 81st United Nations’ General Assembly!

From September 8-26, the United Nations (UN) will convene its 81st General Assembly under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.” Key focuses of this year's UN General Assembly (UNGA) include economic development, climate crisis, regulating the use of artificial intelligence, and global nuclear disarmament. In the backdrop of this convening is Trump heightening wars of aggression and increasing fascist attacks on workers, peasants, and migrants around the world.

The UNGA will convene two months before the ASEAN Summit and the proposed signing of the US-led Pax Silica Initiative, that will drive all-out plunder of resources and development of AI infrastructure for warfare. Genocidal and fascist world leaders like Netanyahu, Bukele, Marcos, and other heads of state will likely participate or send their lackeys with the aim of covering up their bloodied image with diplomacy and map out a future to enrich the largest monopolies.

The UN's explicit theme of "restoring trust" continues to expose the crumbling trust between member states within the UN, reflecting the rifts as powers compete in a multi-polar world. As ILPS, we see the UN for what it is - a tool and instrument of imperialism, where imperialists have veto power and peoples' movements have no leverage. As the UN continues to fail its own Sustainable Development Goals year after year, failing to provide the people with genuine solutions and fulfill its promises, the people must be the ones to hold their governments accountable and advance genuine change through a united mass movement.

Despite the UN's claims to uphold human rights, the imperialist dominated UN continues to fail to adequately defend the interests of the people - whether it be three years of ineffectively responding to the US-Zionist genocide of the Palestinian people, lack of serious barriers to the US war on Iran, and continued violation of human rights and International Humanitarian Law by governments which continue to gain platform in the UN (ie Marcos Jr's' bid for a seat on the UN Security Council). The UN's most updated "counter-terrorism" strategy exposes their failure to uphold the genuine interests of the people, targeting mass movements and peoples' organizations opposing imperialist encroachment. The rising resistance globally in various forms demonstrates that the most complete assertion of human rights must uphold and encompass the collective rights of people for self determination and an end to imperialist war and domination.

In the spirit of genuine international cooperation based on solidarity of the peoples against imperialism, ILPS-US joins allied organizations in launching a Week of Action September 21-27, starting on International Peace Day, to build up our movements and fight for genuine development that is led by the people, and in the interest of the people.
