Unite the Mass Movement of Migrants in the US and Around the World!
Statement of ILPS-US on International Migrants Day, 2025
As we commemorate International Migrants Day on December 18th, ILPS-US uplifts the countless struggles of migrants across the globe as they faced adversity in their homelands that caused them to make the difficult decision to uproot from their families only to face new challenges with increasing state-sponsored terror in their new homes in countries abroad. Repressive states like the US-Trump regime demonize and scapegoat migrants for the worsening economic conditions of their countries to pit them against fellow workers and disguise the fact that it is the ruling class itself who is responsible for the massive loss of jobs and the skyrocketing cost of basic goods, housing and healthcare.
The US-Trump regime’s tactics of painting migrants as criminals hides the fact that the ruling class is the biggest criminal syndicate in the world and the biggest danger to the working class. Billionaires sitting in government positions collude with billionaire corporate heads to lower wages, cut benefits by contractualizing jobs, incorporate artificial intelligence and other ways to mechanize labor, cutting costs and corners on workplace safety and environmental precautions all at the expense of the workers and the communities we live in.
Comparing the dollar or cents per hour wages of migrant workers slaving away in agricultural fields or industrial factories with no real rest breaks or basic safety protections pales in comparison to the billions that corporate heads of the likes of Starbucks - Brian Niccol, Amazon - Jeff Besos, Tesla – Elon Musk make in a year.
From our recent ILPS-US Primer on ICE:
While the US has always relied on migrant and enslaved labor to secure profits, in the past few decades, the collaboration between US imperialists and the ruling classes in countries around the world have systematized the neoliberal export of workers as human commodities. Workers forced to migrate are then superexploited in countries like the US. Once in the US, ICE and other tools of the state are used to divide the working class along lines of race and nationality to prevent the building of class consciousness and class struggle against their exploiters. The very rich drive a campaign of terror and demonization, falsely blaming migrants for the worsening conditions under capitalism and isolating them from US-born workers. This is done to deceive the people from realizing the ruling class is responsible, while also expanding and strengthening the state machinery and its ability to violently repress the workers.
As migrants wage more steadfast struggles and align with the movements seeking to liberate their homelands from imperialist control, they are tagged by the US state as "terrorists" or “terrorism supporters."
In fact, it is the US-Trump regime that is the current biggest terrorist in the world – using its repressive arm of the Dept of Homeland Security to sic its ICE claws on migrants, legal residents and even US citizens alike to claim it is protecting the nation from criminals while tearing apart families and trampling on any previously existing legal rights. This is the fascist offensive Trump is waging to uphold his far-right racist remigration theories and to rid the country of any opposition.
In the global scope, Venezuela is the clearest example of who the US-Trump regime is terrorizing now and lays bare its years of practice in destabilizing any foreign government standing in the way of the US accessing its natural resources by generating blatant lies of narco-drug trafficking, without providing any evidence, as a cover for bombing boats and even stealing oil tankers in international waters while building up its military to surround the country. All this after years of failed US-coup attempts and bombarding the Venezuelan people with economic sanctions because the Bolivarian government refuses to give up the world's largest oil reserves.
The US-Trump regime only welcomes the collaboration of corrupt governments abroad who have opened their doors to the corporate plunder of their country such as with Puerto Rico, Myanmar, the Philippines, and countries throughout West Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Asia Pacific. Nevertheless, the people of those countries are not idly standing and watching as their country's wealth is being stolen. Instead they are waging fierce resistance and even national liberation struggles.
Our communities across the US are also fighting back to Defend Migrants, Defend Our Communities and Defend Peoples’ Struggle! Since Trump tried to deploy the National Guard to cities like Los Angeles, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Portland, the people have fought back and inspired protests against massive ICE operations in Charlotte, New Orleans, Minneapolis and more! We commend the Defend Migrants Alliance and its members who were able to bring together 100+ organizations in a united front to resist fascist attacks against migrants and their families! We need more of these efforts to bring the mass movement of migrants and the labor movement together both here in the US and across the world, to link and raise their issues as a united struggle of workers of the world - a struggle that seeks to liberate our communities and our homelands to resolve the root cause of forced migration, which is why we must put an end to the US-Trump fascist regime and ultimately bring imperialism down!
