ILPS-US Stands with Starbucks Workers United!

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle-US Chapter continues to stand in steadfast solidarity with the brave and militant Starbucks Workers United on their 30th day of striking. More than 2,500 Starbucks baristas in the United States are on strike for better pay, fair schedules, respect on the job, and an end to union-busting. The workers deserve these basic rights  and Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, is on the hook to meet these demands and sign a fair contract!

Starbucks is a multi-national corporation that for the last few decades has defined coffee culture in the United States. Unfortunately, it has also defined unfair labor practices and exploitation of workers in the US and around the world. Starbucks Workers United was launched four years ago in an effort to hold this massive company accountable for its wrongdoings. Their goal was to create a contract to improve the daily lives of workers. However, from day 1, the company has fought the workers at every step. They’ve closed stores, fired workers, disciplined union leaders, and cut wages.

Starbucks has engaged in thinly veiled and illegal union busting and it needs to be stopped!

On November 13th, Starbucks baristas in 40+ U.S. cities launched a strike to keep Starbucks and their crew of billionaire cronies to task. While Starbucks workers are paid measly wages during the busiest time of the year, CEO Niccol made $96 million in 120 days.

There is no room for corporate greed in our workplaces! Starbucks employees should be paid a livable wage!

Unfortunately, under imperialism, capitalists and their lackeys’ greed can run rampant. Nothing is more important to them than their profit margin and lining their wallets with wealth stolen through the exploitation of workers. Fighting for and winning  fair labor practices is a powerful step towards ensuring people power and opposing the expanding exploitation and oppression of working people by big corporations. As Starbucks workers advance towards winning a contract, the fight does not end there - they must continue to organize, enjoining with other working people towards the ultimate downfall of imperialism! We must put the people above the bottom line.

ILPS-US will continue to stand with Starbucks United on their ongoing strike and we look forward to their victory and many more victories to come!
