Stand with Venezuela Against US Intervention and War!
ILPS-US condemns the US-Trump regime in the strongest terms for its all out imperialist acts of war against Venezuela! On Saturday morning, the American public awoke to the horrific news that the US military bombed Caracas and other cities and kidnapped President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. US-Trump continued pushing the lies of "narco-terrorism" coming from Venezuela and is holding Maduro responsible without a shred of evidence and transported him and his wife to stand trial in New York City. These outrageous lies have been paired with even more audacious claims that the US will "run Venezuela" indefinitely and the US’ grand theft and plunder of the country’s oil is merely returning what Venezuela stole from the US. Nothing could be further from the truth, and to drive home their absolute desperation, the US imperialists have resorted to outright imperialist fascist intervention – an escalation of the same brutal tactics they have been using for its almost 250 years of existence.
US strategic interests for this invasion are clear: Venezuela holds the world's largest oil reserves that have mostly been off limits to the US for many years. In fact, it is China, the US' main geostrategic rival, that has received a majority of Venezuela's oil exports, at a discounted rate due to US sanctions. US monopoly corporations like Halliburton - infamous for the wealth it made off the US invasion of Iraq - have been salivating at the prospect of plundering Venezuela's oil wealth, and have even sued the country for lost profits due to the impacts of US sanctions and the government nationalizing the oil industry to fund social programs for the Venezuelan people. Their hope is a US-backed government will develop a much more favorable business terrain. It is clear that leaders in Venezuela are not willing to sell out their country and the people to the US and its corporate power, and thus will be threatened with regime change. Furthermore, Venezuela's continued assertion of its national sovereignty in the face of imperialist attack continues to pose a threat to US imperialist ambitions of sinking its claws further into Latin America as it strives to maintain its global hegemony. This is why Trump not only threatened Maduro but Iran, Colombia and Cuba all in the same week, and significantly altered the outcome of the elections in Honduras and Chile by publicly supporting the pro-capitalist right-wing candidates.
Let the people in the US not be fooled - the Trump regime has shown that its motives are not in relieving the public of their economic woes like solving the problem of rising costs of daily goods and affordable access to healthcare but is only interested in wasting tax payer funds on bullying other countries to enrich the ruling class and their oil conglomerates, and in fueling the military industrial complex that keeps them in power. If anyone must be held to account for their vile lies and crimes against humanity, it is Trump himself, his entire administration and the corporations kowtowing to his every fascist move!
ILPS-US upholds the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, as well as the people across Latin America and the globe, and upholds their right to self-determination as nations – from their rights to their land and waters and the people and resources in them, to their right to democratically elect their leaders, to their right to defend their nation against foreign intervention by any means necessary. We call on people across the country and world to take to the streets against US imperialist aggression and its offensive in Latin America and the Caribbean! Condemn US intervention! Defend the peoples' right to resist US invasion, militarization and plunder! Fight for Venezuelan sovereignty!
