The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week - A Threat to Peoples' Movements
From June 26 to July 2nd, top military officials and heads of repressive agencies around the world convene for the United Nations 2026 Counter-Terrorism Week (CTW).
Under the theme "A Future Free from Terrorism," the US imperialists and their accomplices will use the UN to strengthen counter-insurgency policy and programs which in reality, are the real terror to billions of oppressed and working people fighting to end exploitation.
War criminals guilty of perpetrating massacres will exchange strategies alongside corporate "stakeholders" ready to profit from sale of weapons and surveillance technologies, as supposed civil society institutions are brought together to legitimize state violence.
Under intensifying crisis, the US aims to use to the UN CTW to bolster the capacity of their neocolonies to wield state violence against peoples' movements and enemies of the US, promote their latest counter-insurgency strategy, and strengthen counter-insurgency coordination between states, utilizing AI and other emerging technologies. Though Trump claims to distance the US from the UN, the imperialists still utilize it to consolidate their power amidst rising global rivals, by expanding the capabilities of their reliable fascist partners and mobilizing them to act on threats to US hegemony.
Trump's track record showcases fascist terror and exposes the subservience of the UN to the US' imperialist objectives. A prime example of "counter-terrorism" (CT) used to justify unchecked military violence is the 220 civilians, many of whom are fishermen, killed in the Carribbean Sea while labeled as "narco-terrorists" with no evidence. As the US continues to designate Cuba as a "State Sponsor of Terrorism," it justifies its brutal embargo which has drastically increased infant mortality and slowly strangles the whole of the country. In the US itself, peoples' movements against ICE terror are tagged as domestic terrorism as the state justifies murder and life prison sentences. Trump exposes how the label of "terrorism" is used to justify intense state violence, repression against peoples' movements, and attacks on nations asserting their sovereignty, while maintaining the imperialist system built on profit and exploitation. This is the essence of the counter-terrorism policies the UN propagates.
Fascist regimes like the Philippine government are sending the heads of its National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), a model of the "whole of government" and "whole of society" approach to counterinsurgency - where militarized bureaucracy uses all aspects of the government to repress and target peoples' movements. The struggles of peasants, farmers, and mining communities to fight for their land are criminalized by the NTF-ELCAC and twisted into "terrorism" as multi-national corporations make billions by exploiting the people and plundering the natural resources. The UN's false solutions of strengthening state counter-terrorism will not only fail to resolve, but actually worsen the conditions of people in neocolonies like the Philippines where exploitation and war compel people to organize, defend their communities, and even take up arms against their oppressors.
Our task is to continue to defend peoples' struggles against imperialist war, exploitation, plunder, and fascist repression. By building mass movements against ICE terror, we show the vast majority of the people who stand against state violence are not "terrorists". By fighting for the freedom of Palestine, we assert that solidarity with Palestine is not a crime, and is our duty until Palestine is liberated. We must confront and unmask the fascist enemies of the people, rendering their tactics of repression and violence useless with the strength of our mass movement.
As the peoples' resistance against US imperialism continues on its 250th year, it is crucial to combat and expose US imperialism's motives in building out the narrative of "counter-terrorism." The struggle for just peace through the overthrow of our oppressors and exploiters is a right and duty to our communities, and to our future generations. The imperialist system which oppresses and exploits the majority of the world's people is the true driving force of terrorism in the world today. The fight for freedom of our homelands and the downfall of imperialism towards a brighter future is the true solution to terrorism - a world free from the terror of the exploiters and oppressors.
