Nakba 78: Onwards Toward Liberation!
The International League of Peoples' Struggle US honors the liberatory struggle of the Palestinian people on the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, or the Catastrophe. For over a century, Palestinians have resisted attacks on their land and lives and have demonstrated generational steadfastness to the entire world.
We remember the Nakba as a genocidal event that displaced over 750,000 Palestinians from their land, killing thousands to make way for Jewish settler colonies and create the Zionist entity of "Israel," a project of ethnic supremacy reliant upon the erasure of Palestinian society and history. Commemorating the Nakba every single year is an act of defiance against a highly coordinated and funded Zionist propaganda campaign, especially in the US, that seeks to delegitimize the Palestinian people and their resistance.
Despite a declared "ceasefire," the conditions of Palestinians, especially in Gaza, remain dire. Almost every single Gazan remains displaced. Civilian infrastructure including over 80% of housing is still decimated. There is very little access to medicine, food, or clean water and "Israel" continues to block the delivery of much needed supplies. The genocide on Palestine continues and has extended to Lebanon, funded and armed by the United States.
The recent all out aggression on Iran by the US is a reflection of the same politics of genocide that guided the US' continued backing of Zionist bombardment of Gaza. Driven by the economic crises of imperialism, the US has built a war machine that feeds off the land, resources, and markets of other peoples and nations. West Asia remains critical to US interests, with vast oil wealth and increasingly strategic trade routes as the US competes against China's growing strength. These are the motives behind Trump's bogus Board of Peace, which seeks direct American colonial control over Gaza with Trump as the single most powerful decision maker and absolutely no accountability to even the US government itself.
West Asia is also a region of rich resistance. The conditions of consistent starvation, war, and strangled development breed a powerful vision of liberation from the leech of Zionism and imperialism, which drives the people to take up all forms of struggle including armed struggle. Palestine's movement for National Liberation stands at the forefront of oppressed peoples' struggle around the world, demonstrating heroic strength and commitment against two nuclear powers in the US and Israel and their NATO allies and regional puppets.
This Nakba day, we must commit to growing and strengthening our solidarity with Palestine. As conditions continue to deteriorate in the US, from the general unaffordability of life, to the increasing militarization of our own communities at the hands of ICE, the people are looking for hope and solutions. Palestine remains a beacon of liberation along with all unwavering struggles for genuine liberation and sovereignty such as in the Philippines and India, showing the world that a brighter future can be possible when it is fought for. Let us continue to reach far and wide to inspire the masses to take up solidarity with the Palestinian people and together, confront our common enemy in US imperialism.
From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free!
Long Live the Palestinian Resistance!
Long Live International Solidarity!
