Defend Peoples’ Struggle! Hands Off Nadia Topete!

ILPS-US demands the DOJ to shut down the July 8th grand jury investigation of Nadia Topete and end the political repression of migrant organizers! Nadia is a member of Centro CSO, organizing the migrant community in Los Angeles. She was one of thousands who took to the streets against the ICE occupation of Los Angeles last year, defending migrants and immigrants mobilizing with the community against state terror. The millions of migrant workers in Los Angeles and beyond know the true criminal is the US state who defends their corporate exploiters and attacks them with brute force, while Nadia and organizers like her are the hope of the people.

On July 1, Nadia has been served a second subpoena after a first subpoena to testify in a grand jury this past June. The grand jury is a tool in the state's arsenal of political repression, threatening jail time for refusing to testify against fellow activists. Targeting Nadia only exposes the desperation of the US to use threats and intimidation against community organizers because they effectively mobilize their community in making change. The US' use of ICE to repress migrants and make them more exploitable is facing mass opposition by the organized peoples' movement: blocking the expansion of detention facilities, and mobilizing in thousands to stop ICE attacks.

Political repression will never succeed in deterring the peoples' resistance against fascist attacks. Nadia and all other organizers targeted by the state will not back down because they have the power of the people on their side. Hundreds have called in over the past 24 hours to demand the investigation is shut down! ILPS-US calls on the people to defend peoples' struggle, and build the militant movement against all state violence from the FBI to ICE!
