Oppose US Attacks on Iran! Stop US-Led Imperialist Wars!
The US Country Chapter of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle condemns the US in the strongest terms for its bombing of Iran on June 21st. This major act of increased imperialist aggression by the US follows a more than week long bombing campaign initiated by the Zionist regime with full US support. Despite claims of non-involvement, it was already made clear that these acts were backed by and benefit the US imperialist interests. With this most recent escalation, the US has now made more explicit and open its role in waging war in West Asia.
Throughout the recent bombing campaigns there has been widespread destruction of major cities in Iran and devastation of communications and transportation infrastructure on top of the long standing sanctions and other measures used as an effort to suffocate the people of Iran. While they posture their desire for peace, the US-Zionist regime continues to expose their own rottenness and reveal to the people the truth behind their lies.
History teaches us that US intervention brings nothing but instability and destruction. Mirroring Bush’s claims about “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq, the US has and will continue to justify these attacks as preventing Iran’s development of supposed nuclear weapons. The US has consistently waged wars of regime change and destabilization by proclaiming “peace” as Trump has done with Iran. We have seen this before with Chile, Libya, Somalia, and even Iran itself in the overthrow of democratically elected president Mossadegh. The US weaponizes the false pretense of peace to crush all those who have worked for genuine peace, in order to establish brutal regimes and launch proxy wars that create a friendly situation for US business interests.
This major escalation by the US is not just a violation of international law, it is a blatant bloodthirsty maneuver to gain greater control over the region by weakening one of the strongest bulwarks against US imperialism. For decades, the US has employed sanctions, coups, and all-out war on West Asia primarily to plunder natural resources and control key shipping routes, at the expense of hundreds of thousands of lives. Furthermore, as the US continues to funnel more resources into the imperialist war machine, the people in the US still see their basic needs neglected and even face all out fascist attacks by the State. While the US sent billion dollar planes to drop multi-million dollar bombs, Congress is pushing through a spending bill that could kick 10 million people off of their healthcare. War against Iran is only in the interest of the imperialists, not of the people.
Iran is a sovereign nation that should be celebrated for its steadfast and continued resistance to US-Zionist aggression, from its material support for the Palestinian resistance to occupation and genocide, to its civilian nuclear energy program and other domestic initiatives that break through the deadly imposition of US sanctions and offer genuine opportunities for development and livelihood for the Iranian people.
We call on all democratic and peace-loving people to oppose the US aggression on Iran, and to stand with the resistance to US imperialism throughout the world, from the battlefields of Gaza to the streets of Tehran. In the coming weeks, we call on the people to resist and expose the imperialist and islamophobic propaganda of the US to try to drum up mass support for this war. As the US lashes out to maintain its foothold, let us continue to expand and strengthen the international united front against imperialism to further isolate it until its inevitable downfall.
