US Out of Korea! US Out of Everywhere!

On August 15, ILPS-US organizations took to the streets and rallied to commemorate 81 years since Liberation Day, which marked the defeat of Japanese colonial rule in Korea. We also support and stand in firm solidarity with the Korean people in their current ongoing struggle for national sovereignty against US imperialist domination.

In commemorating Liberation Day, the US Out of Korea campaign called for a National Day of Action to oppose the Ulchi Freedom Shield war games, an annual war “exercise“ between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the US that sells out the land and people of Korea to serve military build-up and prepare for inter-imperialist war in the Asia-Pacific.

We celebrate the Jaju Solidarity Brigade, led by Nodutdol, in joining over 10,000 people in Seoul marching for the annual National Liberation Day protest, which brought South Korea’s progressive organizations together with international delegates from anti-war organizations across the US, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Hawai’i, Guam, and India.

Recently, President Donald Trump made a statement opposing the continued US-ROK joint military exercises, claiming that the exercises are costly for the US. Despite this, the US government continues to maintain military deals and numerous bases across the Korean peninsula, still working to strengthen its military occupation and operations overseas in preparation for inter-imperialist war.

As the US continues to prime its colonies for war and escalate its wars of aggression in the Asia Pacific, we must be prepared to strengthen the anti-imperialist mass movement and advance our struggles for the national liberation of our homelands. ILPS-US affirms the call for US Out of Korea and US Out of Our Homelands!
