On the 77th Anniversary of the Nakba
On the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, ILPS US honors generations of resistance against the US-backed Zionist occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. The Nakba in 1948 began the mass expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, with homes stolen and villages destroyed, by US and British backed Zionist militia forces. This may have been the start of the Nakba, but it continues to this day. The escalation of the continued Nakba into complete genocide since October 2023 will go down in history as one of the most horrid cruelties ever committed; Zionism will surely be a chapter next to Nazism in the history of fascist brutality. Yet, the continued genocide, forced displacement, and siege has not shaken the will of the Palestinian people in their struggle for an end to Zionist occupation.
Currently, the Zionist regime is committing an atrocity of devastating proportions as millions are being starved to death while tonnes of food aid sit across the border due to a siege and blockade of over two months imposed by the settler regime of “Israel.” This Zionist entity continues to drop US-funded and supplied bombs on cities of tents, schools, hospitals, mosques, and churches in Gaza, all of which have had to act as sources of shelter amidst a landscape of rubble for the vast majority of Palestinians. Every day is a struggle for survival.
The Zionists have unilaterally broken every ceasefire agreement offered by the Palestinian resistance, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they cannot restrain themselves. In addition, Trump’s role in brokering the last ceasefire was purely for his own business interests in “owning” Gaza. He holds not an ounce of concern that US bombs are responsible for the deaths of tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of Palestinians. His comments of turning Palestine into the “Riviera of the Middle East” and his current tour to close deals on business ventures in the region all point to his real motive of enriching himself and his capitalist circles.
The only path forward at this time is the united resistance. The armed struggle of the Palestinian people is forging the path to liberation. Their decades of struggle shows that imperialism and Zionism can be defeated. Around the world, people continue to stand with Palestine, to declare that genocide will not be tolerated, and are building a bigger and stronger mass movement against US imperialism, for a Free Palestine, and self-determination of people everywhere.
Rooted in the popular support of the Yemeni people, Ansarallah has been striking “Israeli” and US military and commercial targets for months in response to the genocide and attacks on their homeland, successfully enacting shipping and air blockades while costing the US military millions in destroyed drones, missiles, and planes. The largest military force in the world has been held at bay by a people who do not even operate their own air force, but have an unbeatable will to resist.
In the US, anti-imperialist consciousness and actions are rising, as people take to the streets and students set up encampments to demand their campuses sever ties with “Israel.” Despite schools across the country being raided by federal and local police, with students beaten, arrested, expelled and some threatened with deportations for demanding their institutions end their complicity in genocide, students are remaining steadfast in their solidarity.
ILPS-US calls on our communities, members and allies to continue doing our part in drawing the connections between our struggles. The attacks against people within the US are committed by the same imperialists backing the deadly genocide of Palestine. The cuts to social services and threats to our funding for healthcare are going towards an ever skyrocketing military budget used to drop bombs and instigate war overseas. They are also funding a prison industrial complex that represses people in the US while abducting and terrorizing migrants and violating our democratic rights and legal system. It is ever more important for us to continue building a mass movement and broad anti-imperialist united front to defeat our common enemy of imperialism with the US at its helm! The united Palestinian resistance against the ongoing Nakba is a beacon to all who fight for justice and liberation!
