In his prime time address Wednesday night, Trump's desperate attempts to justify the US war on Iran show just how isolated the US is in its imperialist maneuvers. Since the onset of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, there have been nothing but devastating impacts for the people of Iran and the world. 3000+ have been killed in the attacks on Iran with estimated over 3 million displaced from their homes. Trump tries to boast about military triumphs, but his lies ring hollow for working people who are forced to bear the brunt of the impacts.
Trump: “We built the strongest economy in history. We’re going through it right now, the strongest in history."
The people in the US and around the world face massive inflation due to the US-Israeli acts of aggression, driven by the imperialist need to secure resources, markets, and territory as economic crisis and rivalry intensifies. Oil prices have increased by 45% since the start of the war, immediately causing gas prices to skyrocket by over $1 per gallon, and triggering a wave of inflation on prices of all goods due to rising transportation costs and impacts to global trade. The people take on the burden and cost of war while those in power seek to line their pockets.
Trump: “This is a true investment in your children and your grandchildren’s future."
The Pentagon, alongside major weapons companies, are salivating at the prospect of another $200 billion in funding from Congress to replenish the billions in spent missiles and destroyed vehicles and grow the arsenal of the US, in preparation for even more destructive wars. All this while Trump's One Big Beautiful Act has slashed access to healthcare, cut food assistance programs, and restricted access to education loans. It is a full attack on working people with long lasting future impacts, all to funnel more money into the war economy.
Trump: “The whole world is watching and they can’t believe the power, strength and brilliance [...] of the United States military"
This war is deeply unpopular with the people of the US and the entire world. Trump is trying to obscure the fact that they have not achieved their objectives of regime change or destruction of Iran's nuclear capabilities and instead have tanked the global economy, taken significant damage of US military infrastructure, and are experiencing casualties in a war that has minimal support. That is why the US demands that other countries open up the Strait of Hormuz, an incredibly dangerous military operation.
Trump seeks to save face by trying to frame the war on Iran as a success while giving no clear timeline for its end. In actuality Trump and the US imperialists have failed to achieve their goals as the people of Iran remain steadfast in their resistance to US-imperialist aggression and the people in the US and the world increasingly show their opposition to this war.
We must continue to show solidarity with the people of Iran and extend all effort to build a unified movement against US-led war!
