ILPS-US Congratulates JUPI on their First Congress! Onward Toward the Liberation of Puerto Rico!
Since its founding in 2024, JUPI has expanded and strengthened the fight of Puerto Rican youth for the liberation of their homeland. New chapters and organizing committees in Puerto Rico and across the US are being built to mobilize the youth in the struggle for independence and genuine democracy. Just this year, JUPI confronted Governor and US puppet Jennifer Gonzalez at her “Statehood Summit” and raised the demands of the people for independence. JUPI continues to build up fights against foreign plunder and displacement, for pro-people education for the youth, and for a free, anti-imperialist, and socialist Puerto Rico. This congress strengthened the unity for the struggle ahead.
The advancement of the struggle for the liberation of Puerto Rico strengthens all peoples' movements against imperialism. The land of Puerto Rico is used by the US as an “unsinkable aircraft carrier,” like many other footholds of U.S. military power around the world, from "israel" to the Philippines, to launch attacks against nations asserting their sovereignty like Venezuela, and to project the US’s military strength in Latin American and the Caribbean. Foreign investors enrich themselves using tax breaks in collusion with local corrupt officials, strengthening the control of large monopolies that exploit working people around the world. Victory for the people's movement in Puerto Rico is a major blow to US imperialism, and a step forward for the people of Puerto Rico to develop society to use its resources for the advancement of the nation.
ILPS-US and its members commit to standing and taking up campaigns in solidarity with JUPI and the people of Puerto Rico in their struggle against imperialism and puppet rule. We join the Puerto Rican people in their fight for a society free from foreign extraction and militarization. We hope this congress serves to consolidate and strengthen JUPI and the mass movement for the liberation of Puerto Rico!
